The lesser of two EVILS

Surely you have heard this phrase applied to something or other: “Well, we have to choose the lesser of two evils.”

Do people who say this ever actually stop to think about what they are saying?

With the acceptance of this mentality, what are people saying that they have accepted?

This is always, ALWAYS the way with compromise.

Is this ever really a choice for those who hunger and thirst after righteousness?

Although I have heard of the phrase, I have never used it,,,,I guess because I do not like the word evil.

I am trying to think what I usually say in that situation....hmmmmm....usually "it's either this or that....take your pick" or "would you rather it be (fill in the blank)?"

Anyway, you gave me something to think about. THis is a sign of a good blog!

Hi Lori,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for the kind word.

I'm not sure what you mean by not liking to use the word evil. After all the Lord Jesus teaches to pray, "deliver us from evil" or "the evil one."

I imagine that you mean that you do not like to use harsh words. Yet, sometimes harsh words are the only ones that fit. Wouldn't you agree?

I would certainly agree that we should be very careful in using words like "evil" so that we only apply them when the Lord declares that we should. That way, rather than appointing ourselves as judges, we act by faith in declaring what He Himself has already judged, and we do so not with evil intent, but with the very best interest of all at heart for the sake of speaking the truth in love.
